Dr. Rebecca Schmidt-Jeffris is a Research Entomologist with USDA-ARS in Wapato, Washington Her research program focuses on the biological control of pest insects and mites in apple and pear orchards by their predators and parasitoids. This includes projects investigating the basic biology of these organisms, and applied studies on best practices for augmenting natural enemies, pesticide non-target effects, and using landscape manipulation and supplementary foods to enhance populations. Rebecca is currently the lead Editor of American Entomologist magazine. She has been recognized as a Service to America Medal finalist, the Pacific West Area USDA-ARS Early Career Research Scientist of the Year and received the Entomological Society of America’s Early Career Research and Extension awards.
